Caste & misinterpretation of religious scriptures!

This is an article, which I thought of writing long ago, nevertheless it took me so long to shed my laziness. I was watching this documentary, which was about the ill effects of castism in India.
THough the religious aspect of that is the one that I wouldn't appreciate, the things about the barbaric acts against different castes makes you wonder if the system is really worth it.

A lady is raped and her husband killed because she stood and won the elections against an opponent who belongs to upper caste.

Children who are around 5-10 years of age are taught about castes and the thoughts are inculcated into their minds. Those innocent minds aren't even aware that they are following an act which may lead them nowhere. They are aware of one thing, that, people of lower caste carry need to be shed off.

During the Q & A session, I gave the example of the differential treatment between the castes, not between the lower and upper castes but among upper castes, and this is being implemented in one of the prestigious colleges in the state.

Iam not in such a passionate mood to elaborate about topic any further.

The way vedas are ingterpreted in the documentary disturbed me a lot. Religious scriptures never propose untouchability or there is never a justification for the differential treatment. The literal meaning of the scriptures may intend things which are way different from the real meaning.

I wanted to write so much about this issue, but the intensity of my emotions have subsided...hope to find a better reasoning behind the misconceptions of religiou sscriptures.

this topic needs more legitimate reasoning i think the points u have raised are not so valid.. there should be a depth in the thinking of our ancestors in implementing caste system... regarding untouchability also i wud like to know are u sure that it has not been implemented in ancient times if you are sure then you are opposing the puranas???? please let me know so that i can really understand the essence of this article.

The justification for untouchability based on the caste system was not due to the caste as such but becuase of the activities that the people belonging to those castes were doing. People of a particular sect were involved in Ruing the city, others in chating hymns, other in clothing etc. So the mindset and food habits etc. may have required to implement the untouchability based on the work and hence based on the caste...REMEBER it is not vice versa. But, in our era can you name people from a caste, who, no matter what will do only one activity. Brahmins for example are into different fields, say runnign business which has not been their core competence since ages, but they are making a mark. So, the concept of untouchability makes no sense, because caste was only a secondary reason in the weird untouchability syndrome!!

caste is not merely based on activities its a wrong conception taken by all our generation
gita clearly states that its from birth no matter one does adhere to the duties of his caste or not but he will have an inherent genetic habits and configurations for which he has to stick to certain rules of life,, which is hard for the present modern approach to accept but its a fact... untouchability is practised to a greater levels even today... if observed properly in the present system.
